well folks, the time has come to confirm my highly rumored and fervently anticipated return to the second-largest area and most populous province in canada. i’ll be arriving at yyz on september 30th and returning to yvr on october 16th… 15 whole days!! this should give me nearly enough time to visit with everyone who misses me dearly… i kinda wish i was leaving tomorrow, since i am well in need and overdue for some holidays… but oh well, before i know it, i’ll away from work… sitting in my old bedroom with my dial-up internet, and old cd collection; driving my audi 100 around on the open road; chillin’ with all my pals, catching up on the last year, sharing some drinks and laughs; enjoying thanksgiving with my family, eating some turkey, and dealing with ‘the usual’; and well, overall, having a great two weeks back home.
we here in Canada like holidays… but for sure.. it is a way bigger deal in the US… anyways… here’s a quote from wikipedia that sort of explains it:

umm… YVR and YYZ are the International Air Transport Association(IATA) airport codes which are used largely in commercial air travel to identify airports. In addition to those codes there are also the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) codes which are more used for umm… air-traffic control and international flight planning… ryan correct me if i am wrong here…
to sum up..
YVR = CYVR = Vancouver International Airport
YYZ = CYYZ = Toronto Pearson International Airport
CBR = YSCB = Canberra International Airport (Australia)

but howcome u guys use airport codes?? why dont u just say i am flying over to vancouver aiport or toronto airport or wherever?
and to come to visit me, u wouldnt go to canberra.
well, most people would say they are flying to toronto or vancouver or whatever… and not refer to their codes in normal conversation. however, confusion can arise when there are more than one airport in a city, which many do. [ie… Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), etc.]
so using the codes, help ensure both parties are talking about the same airport – assuming both parties know what the codes are 😛
